Myeik - The Origin of Kan-Zaw Oil

According to the 2014 census, Taninthayi region, where Myeik Township and Dawei is located, is of a population of more than 1.4 million on a land area of 43,328 square kilometer. On the north there is Mon state. Thailand is on the east and south while Andaman Sea is on the west.

In Taninthayi region, Maungmagan Beach, pagodas like Dawei Ko Myo Shin, Taninthayi mountain range, Andaman Sea and the archipelago could attract local and international visitors and the expanding travel business has been developing well in the region.

Other than tourism, it has many opportunities for economic development on natural resources. On the Myeik archipelago, white and old gold natural and cultured pearl could be produced. Elephant Foot Yam, Kan Zaw herbal oil, rubber and palm oil plantations, bird nest or swiftlet nest, aqua culture and fishery works were abundant in Taninthayi region.
